What if confidence isn't the thing you're missing?

A question from a recent interview got me thinking...

Recently, I had the opportunity to be featured in an article sharing a bit about my journey as a business owner, consultant, and speaker.

As I reflected on the interview questions, one in particular stuck with me:

"What qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have been most impactful in your journey?"

It's an interesting question because when we think about success, we often assume the answer is confidence.

If I could just be more confident...
If I could just be more certain...
If I could just know exactly what to do...

Then I could take the next step.

But when I look back at my own journey, confidence wasn't what came first.

Action did.

Many of the opportunities that shaped my career happened long before I felt fully prepared.

Starting a business.
Speaking on stages.
Leading strategic initiatives.
Launching new programs.
Writing a book.

None of those things happened because I felt 100% ready.

They happened because I was willing to move forward before I had all the answers.

Over time, I've learned that confidence is often the result of action.

The leaders and organizations I work with frequently find themselves in a similar place.

They're waiting for certainty before making a decision.

Waiting for the perfect plan before moving forward.

Waiting until they have more time, more resources, or more clarity.

But growth rarely works that way.

Clarity often comes from movement.

Momentum creates information.

Action creates confidence.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned this year is that growth isn't always about adding more.

Sometimes growth requires release.

Releasing the idea that everything must be figured out before you begin.

Releasing opportunities that no longer align.

Releasing expectations that no longer serve the season you're in.

Releasing the pressure to have all the answers.

As leaders, we spend so much time asking ourselves, "What do I need to do next?"

Perhaps a better question is:

"What do I need to release so I can move forward?"

That question has changed a lot for me this year.

Maybe it will for you, too.
