What I’m Leaving Behind This Year (and Why You Should Too)

Its okay to shed the old to make way for the new

Every year teaches its own lessons, but not everything deserves to come with us into the next chapter. Growth requires pruning. Leadership requires release (which is my word for 2026, more to come on that!). Clarity requires courage.

This year, I’ve learned that what you leave behind is just as important as what you’re moving toward. So as I prepare for 2026, here’s what I’m intentionally releasing—and why it matters for every leader navigating a season of expansion.

I’m leaving behind overcommitment.
Just because I can do something doesn’t mean I should. This year taught me the power of honoring my energy, not my ego. I’m walking into 2026 with fewer obligations, more focus, and deeper intentionality. I don’t desire to be busy but have a calendar that feels aligned with my goals, energy, and needs.

I’m leaving behind survival-mode leadership.
The days of “push through,” “grind harder,” or “I’ll rest later” are over. Sustainable success demands space, rest, and strategic pace. I am choosing rhythm over rush.

I’m leaving behind misaligned opportunities.
If it doesn’t align with my mission, values, and long-term vision, it’s not for me—no matter how good it sounds on paper. Alignment is profitability and peace of mind.

I’m leaving behind carrying what isn’t mine.
This year I learned how often leaders take on responsibilities, emotions, or expectations that were never meant for us. In 2026, I am holding space—but not holding burdens.

Releasing these things doesn’t make the year perfect. It makes the new year possible.

Let this be your reminder: leaving things behind is an act of leadership, not loss. It creates room for clarity, creativity, abundance, and purpose. You deserve to enter 2026 lighter, clearer, and more aligned. What are you leaving behind this year to allow yourself room for growth and elevation in the next year?
