Someone Is Always Watching, What Do They See?
They’re Watching—And That’s a Good Thing
Last week, I had the honor of being nominated for the NextGen Award by the Columbus, OH chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). When the email came through announcing my nomination, I was stunned. I've only been part of this organization for a year—and in the Columbus community for less than two. In my mind, I’m still “the new one,” flying under the radar, quietly doing the work.
But clearly, that’s not how others see me.
As I walked into the event—hand in hand with my husband Kevin, who was there to support me—people kept coming up to say, “Congratulations!” When I entered the VIP area for nominees, there wasn’t a single confused glance. No one questioned why I was there. I belonged. And they knew it, even if I hadn’t fully claimed it yet.
I didn’t take home the official award that night, but I walked away with something just as valuable: perspective.
Two different people came up to me during the event and said nearly the same thing:
“Faith, people are watching you. You’re making an impact. Keep going.”
Those words struck me. Deeply. It was a profound reminder that even when we think no one notices us—someone does. People are always observing. They’re watching how we show up, how we lead, how we serve, and how we live. And they’re quietly asking themselves, “If she can do it, maybe I can too.”
That’s the real power of presence.
So I ask you:
When people look at you, what do they see?
What do they believe is possible because of how you carry yourself, how you treat others, and the way you move through the world?
It’s easy to believe that impact is reserved for big stages or viral moments—but the truth is, our greatest influence often comes in the unseen moments. The small choices. The consistent showing up. The energy we bring into every room. People may not always remember your words, but they will remember how you made them feel.
Your reputation isn’t built in one moment—it’s built over time. And it’s built on integrity, presence, and service.
As I step into this next season—growing a team (we’re now three strong, plus an intern—yay!), expanding my business, and deepening my work with nonprofits and small businesses—I carry that reminder with me. My team is watching. My clients are watching. The organizations I serve with are watching. My friends, my family, my community—they’re all watching. Even when I don’t realize it.
And instead of letting that feel heavy, I choose to let it feel empowering. Because it means I have the privilege of influence. And with that privilege comes the opportunity to lead with intention, to uplift others, and to show what’s possible.
You never know who you’re inspiring just by being yourself.
Keep going. They're watching. And you're making an impact.
