Reflections on a Recent Podcast and New Opportunities for Learning

I recently had the honor of being on the Story Samurai podcast and sharing a little bit about my background and story. I am not sure about you all, but sometimes when I do podcasts I try not to overprepare so I can really be in the moment and just allow what is meant to flow out to come without overthinking it too much. I sent up a prayer before this and just really leaned in to what felt right. Listening back afterwards was almost an out of body experience reflecting on what I was hearing and hoping that those listening would take away from it too. Everytime that I am on a podcast it is just as impactful for me as I hope it is to those listening. Ari did a great job of facilitating the questions and diving into the important takeaways for the listeners.

As I was listening to the recording I was reminded of a few key points:
1) we are not in control of the world around us but we are in control of our response and how we show up in the world. Life is going to happen to us but we can control how we respond to people, situations, and others. How do you want others to think of you?
2) building community and being intentional with pouring into people is key for a strong support system and removing feelings of isolation. So many people today report feeling alone and I think part of that is our own fault for not showing up, being present (removing technological distractions and being fully present), and asking for help when we need it.
3) when something stressful happens, take a pause before responding, we often do not want that first survival response to be the one we share. Think twice before responding!
