Halfway Isn't Behind, It's a Turning Point
Are you staying the same or changing how you go into the second half of the year? Read til the end to see some exciting things coming up too!
Somehow, we're already halfway through the year.
If you're anything like me, you're probably wondering where the last six months went. Maybe you've accomplished goals you once thought were out of reach. Maybe you've pivoted more times than you expected. Maybe you've taken on more than you intended, or maybe you're realizing that what felt important in January doesn't feel as important today.
The middle of the year has a way of inviting reflection.
Not because we've failed if we aren't where we thought we'd be, but because it gives us something incredibly valuable: perspective.
Unlike January, when everything feels driven by resolutions and ambitious goals, July offers something different. It offers experience. We now know what has worked, what hasn't, what has energized us, and what has quietly drained us.
I don't believe the second half of the year is about squeezing more into an already full calendar. I believe it's about becoming more intentional with what deserves our time, our energy, and our attention.
Whether you're leading a nonprofit, growing a business, serving your community, or managing a team, success isn't measured solely by how much you accomplish. It's also measured by your willingness to pause, evaluate, and make adjustments before burnout makes those decisions for you.
As you know, one of my guiding words this year has been release.
Not because I wanted to accomplish less, but because I want to make room for what matters most.
I've learned that growth doesn't always come from adding another opportunity, another client, another committee, or another commitment. Sometimes the greatest growth comes from having the courage to let something go.
That might mean:
Releasing expectations that no longer fit the season you're in.
Saying no to opportunities that aren't aligned with your long-term vision.
Simplifying the way you work instead of constantly working harder.
Giving yourself permission to finish what you've already started before chasing what's next.
Protecting your energy with the same intentionality that you protect your calendar.
As leaders, we often pride ourselves on our capacity, but capacity isn't about carrying everything.
It's about carrying the right things.
As I look toward the second half of this year, I'm asking myself a different set of questions than I did in January.
Instead of asking, "What else can I achieve?"
I'm asking:
What deserves my attention?
What no longer aligns with where I'm headed?
What am I holding onto simply because I've always done it?
Where do I need to trust that saying no creates space for a better yes?
You don't need a brand-new year to choose a new direction.
You don't need to wait until January to make a change.
You don't need permission to adjust your goals based on what you've learned.
In fact, that's what strong leadership looks like.
It's recognizing that growth isn't linear, plans evolve, and the willingness to adapt is often more valuable than stubbornly sticking to a plan that no longer serves you.

As exciting as these opportunities are, what excites me even more is how they're happening.
Not because I said yes to everything.
But because I've become more intentional about what I say yes to.
That's a lesson I'll continue carrying into the second half of this year.
So before you fill the rest of your calendar, pause for a moment.
Celebrate how far you've already come.
Acknowledge what you've learned.
Release what no longer belongs.
And choose the next six months with intention.
Because halfway isn't behind you.
It's a turning point.
Here's to finishing the year with clarity, purpose, and the courage to make room for what matters most.
