Change- Are You Resisting or Welcoming?
I’m sure that many of you have heard the saying before that “the only constant in life is change”. The world around us is constantly changing. Many of us would probably say that we don’t wake up each day and say “I can’t wait to see what change comes my way today”. (I mean maybe you do but you’re in the small minority of people) LOL
Change is going to happen whether we like it or not. We cannot control what happens around us, but we can control how we think about change, process it, and move forward. I am a recovering control freak. I like the sense that I am in control of what is happening in my life, business, and around me, even though its a facade. Cognitively I know that I am not in control of many things other then me, but it does grant me some false sense of security when I think that I am “in control”. Anyone with me on that one?
I want you to close your eyes or think to yourself about this… what do you want your life, business, job, family, to look like a year from now…. do you have that image in your mind? Now, if you keep making every single choice that you are currently making will you get there? Or are there changes that need to happen to ensure you are building the habits, connections, relationships that are needed in order to get you there? Change can be a good thing, it can get you closer to the person, leader, parent, spouse that you want to be. However, are you open to the change that is needed to get you there?
On a LinkedIn Live yesterday with my friend Caren Cooper, I shared a story about what was happening in my life over the last 6 months or so. I have known for literally YEARS that in order to get myself to where I needed to be mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually there were a few things that I needed to build into my week.
morning quiet time in devotion, prayer, and journaling
3-4 days a week working out
drinking enough water
sleeping at least 8 hours
having at least one day off a week to rest
meal prepping so I can eat healthy and not have to cook each day
Now I had heard for years of successful women doing these things and it fueling them to ward the success they desired. In my mind I was cynical like “can that seriously make that big of a difference'“? BUT decided my goals and dreams were big enough that I would try. So back in November I set out on a journey to tackle these things slowly to add them into my routine and habits. I started tracking them to build the skills/routine. I didn’t jump off the deep end and do all at the same time but first started with morning quiet time and water, then added sleep and meal prepping, and ended adding working out and rest. When I tell you that as I started making the intentional change in my personal life, it really did have a major major impact on my professional life as well. My energy started increasing, I felt less anxious/nervous, I had clearer thoughts, I felt more grounded, and my business started growing at a level that I haven’t seen before. Again I did not make these changes all at once but identified what changes were needed and how to actually do them in a sustainable way.
What change personally or professionally do you know that you need to make to get to where you want to go? Are you welcoming the change or are you resisting? What happens if you make no change at all, will you be okay with where that leads you? Are you, your family, your friends, etc worth the change? I think so!
