7 Key Areas of Grant Readiness

I am someone who loves a good guide, checklist, or to do. It helps give me direction, questions to ask, or thoughts to ponder. There are so many random and sometimes not useful thoughts running through my head on any given moment that I love a document that says “hey here is where you should be going or how”. Anyone agree?

In my work with nonprofits over the last almost 10 years I have seen a lot of similar struggles with organizations regardless of their size, mission, etc. Many people who work in nonprofits or even start their own nonprofits, do it because they are passionate, mission driven individuals. Many of them wear every single hat imaginable (been there too). However, it is easy to get sucked into the day in, day out, trying to survive and before we know it we are up to our neck in paperwork, have more client need then capacity to serve, and desperately need additional funding for capacity, support, more services, or infrastructure. After seeing these reoccurring needs, we decided to create a workbook that helps organizations think through and reflect on key areas needed to help build capacity for grant readiness. It’s not just about a good application, its about having the capacity within your organization to do the work the funder is wanting and showing that capacity.

What are the 7 key areas you may ask?

  • Organizational Mission and Impact

  • Researching the Right Funding Opportunities

  • Data and Success

  • Organizational Capacity

  • Documentation

  • Your Application

  • Partnerships and Collaborations

How do you feel about those 7 areas within your organization? Are there areas you can grow? Reply back which area you feel is most important for your elevation as an organization!
